If you have been to Melnik
for the day, they you really have to stop in Sandanski on your way
back. It is a pretty little town with probably thye longest pedestianised
area I have ever walked along! The tree-lined street has been closed
to traffic, and now offers lovely cool shade from the heat of the
summer (we visited in April and it was very hot then). As Sandanski
is the nearest major town to the Greek border it has a very odd
feel about it. Many of the notices and signs are in Bulgarian, Greek
and English, with prices in Lev and Euro.
As ever there are a lot of street cafes so you can relax awhile
and watch the world go by.
