Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria, and in many
respects much 'prettier' than the capital.
It offers a huge amount of architectural and archeological interest,
with many ancient sites around the city.

The main shopping centre is quite large and fully pedestrianised.
The newly re-paved pedestrian centre is as good as any in Europe
with a wide avenue, lots of small shops and an abundance of street
cafes.
Modern Plovdiv is fairly cosmopolitan by Bulgarian standards.

Looking north (above), and south (below) in the pedestrianised
area.

Some street vendors selling an amazing variety of honey - and I
thought it was just only available in yellow!

Plovdiv is very well maintained and cared for, with some beautiful
green spaces and old buildings.

They even scrub out the fountains.....

To find the best restaurants go away from the main precinct, down
some of the back streets, or explore the old town.
